Lower Tuition
One of the most appealing reasons to attend a community college is the lower tuition rate. The average tuition rate nationwide for community colleges is $1,300 per year. This equals $650 per semester. When you compare this cost to the average tuition rate of $3,200 for a 4-year state university, plus room and board, or an average of $14,000 for private 4-year colleges, the option of attending a community college is extremely appealing!
Many who plan to eventually earn a 4-year baccalaureate degree attend a community college the first two years for the lower tuition, among other reasons. They take the required general education courses for their major through an accredited University Transfer program – the same quality courses they would be taking at a senior college – and save lots of money!
