Career Spotlight _ Truman Nicholson

I recommend that you take algebra, geometry, and trigonometry in high school. I use trig everyday! And I use geometry a lot to figure out dimensions. If you have the option, you should also take the machine tool courses at a career center. One thing those courses allowed me to do was to exempt my first year of machining classes in college because I could prove that I already knew that material.

If you play it smart, you can really get a lot out of your high school courses! I wouldn’t be where I am today if I had not taken those basic courses at the career center and at Tri-County. And take the specific Machine Tool courses if you want to go into this field. I would also recommend courses in blueprint reading and Computer Aided Drafting and Design.
