When I interviewed for my job here, I was asked why BMW
should hire me. My answer was I enjoy learning and I adapt
to change quickly. You need to have a willingness to learn
new things and the ability to adapt to change if you want
to be successful in this environment.
To stay competitive and be profitable, BMW has to change
continuously, and things have changed tremendously since
I started work here in 1995. The company needs people who
are flexible and can live with all this change. I actually
like change, if it’s for the better. Concerning math and
communication skills, I use mainly algebra and occasionally
some trigonometry. I have to read a lot of technical manuals
and documentation and write various reports and emails.
I also have to communicate by radio all the time. So math,
technical reading and writing, speaking, and even a foreign
language would benefit anybody in this field. Sometimes
we have technical documents that are written in German,
and I am in contact with many people from Germany who install
our equipment. They speak a little English, but mainly German,
so technical German would greatly benefit me here at BMW.
