When I was in high school, I did well in science. Biology was my favorite subject. Then, when I got to college, I learned to like chemistry and to love physiology. I recommend that students who are interested in nursing take a lot of science and biology courses. Math is important too.

The sooner you start learning about human psychology, the better off you’ll be. A lot of nursing is about dealing with and working with various people. You can give patients their medications as prescribed, but you also have to know how to handle people in different situations.

Taking foreign language courses can also help. Where I work, nurses who speak Spanish are at a definite advantage with so many Hispanic people in this area.
