A: Education is always worth the investment! But if you’re concerned about whether your child will be able to get a job with a reasonable salary, you (and your child) will need to consider several factors that may affect your child’s earning potential right out of college. Has your child received relevant work experience while working toward the degree? Are there realistic jobs in your child’s degree field? And how willing is your child to go where the jobs are available? Also, depending on your child’s undergraduate major, his options may be limited unless he attends graduate school. Some undergraduate majors, such as Psychology, offer limited opportunities for employment in the field unless a person has a specialized graduate degree. So make sure you and your child research the job opportunities available for the degree your child desires.
Ultimately, the worth of an education will depend upon your child’s career goals and values. What does he want to get out of his education? What is important to him? Your child needs to decide on a career goal first, then choose the best program of study to achieve that goal!
