SKILLS THAT WORK
In South Carolina, every three years a survey is conducted statewide
by the State Chamber of Commerce to assess South Carolina’s employment
needs and the top skills that South Carolina employers look for
in their employees. The Skills That Work survey
is the most comprehensive effort South Carolina has ever made
to identify the specific skills and education young people need
to be successful in the world of work -- both now and in the future.
What were the results of the survey? Listed below are the top
skills in demand in South Carolina (based on findings of
Skills That Work 2003):
- Work ethic and maturity
- Basic Math
- Basic Reading, Writing
- People Skills and Oral Communication
- Technical Training
- Practical Work Experience
- Common Sense
